Lt. Governor launches PM KISAN scheme in Isles

Port Blair, Feb 24: The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) launched PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme in A&N Islands today at Raj Niwas, simultaneously with the National level launching of the Scheme by the Prime Minister at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking on the occasion, he congratulated the farming community as well as the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, NIC and bank for the cordial synchronization of effort, for achieving in a record period of two weeks covering all the farmers of UT. Further he felicitated ten farmers from Prothrapur and Ferrargunj Block with certificate to the recipient of the first instalment financial benefit of the scheme through digital transfer.

The Secretary, Agriculture, Mr. Krishan Kumar, explained in detail the step wise action for implementation of PM KISAN scheme. To implement the scheme in war footing mode, he adopted a strategy of convergence of Agriculture, Rural Development, District Administration and PRIs. He thanked Ministry of Agriculture for timely guidance through series of Video Conferencing. Though the scheme was received on 07/01/2019 with the deadline of 22/02/2019 but reaped a success due to active participation by the team.

The Secretary, Agriculture further shared the hurdles in implementation of the scheme in UT. The communication network being the major hurdle apart from existing issues related to land holding,  joint mutation, sub-division etc. He thanked NIC, Canara Bank for their dedicated services. He specially appreciated the role of Media for providing publicity of PM Kisan scheme at each stage of the progress in a fast track mode in far flung areas of this UT. He further thanked the Island farmers for their cooperation and active participation and timely providing of all the requisite documents.

Earlier, Mr. Navlendra Singh, Director, RD, in his welcome address informed that more than 2417 farmers have been benefitted through digital transfer and the remaining farmers will be getting the benefit within two weeks of time. At the outset, Smt. Clerybell D’souza, Joint Director Agri/Nodal Officer, Project Monitoring Unit PM KISAN scheme briefed about the PM KISAN Samman Nidhi Scheme.

 

The Chief Secretary, A&N Islands, Mr. Chetan B. Sanghi, has keenly monitored and guided the team since inception till the launch of PM Kisan scheme, which resulted a grand success. The Principal Secretary (Finance), Mr. Vikram Dev Dutt also motivated the team & the farmers during his recent visit to Shaheed Island. Mr. Dutt also interacted with the farmers & appealed the farming community to avail the benefit of the scheme.

Mr. V.B. Ganapathy, Director, NIC and Mr. Shamir, Manager, Canara Bank congratulated the farmers and thanked the departments for providing an opportunity to serve the farming community.

Invitees comprising of Secretaries & HoDs of Administration, farmers, PRIs, Members of Cooperative Societies and departmental officers participated and witnessed the Live Telecast on PM’s Mann Ki Baat and Launch of PM Kisan Scheme at Gorakhpur as well as felicitation of farmers by the Lieutenant Governor of the Islands at Raj Niwas. Mr. Sanjib Kumar Mandal, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, and Smt. Anusia Devi, Chairperson, Municipal Council also witnessed the function.

Under the scheme, financial benefit of Rs.6000/- per year will be provided to all small and marginal farmer families, having total cultivable holding of upto 2 hectare, which will be provided in 3 equal instalments of Rs.2000/- each in a period of every four months in a financial year. The benefit shall be admissible for the transfer w.e.f. 01.12.2018.
