Member of Parliament organizes Kargil Vijay Diwas in a grand manner

Port Blair, July 26: On the occasion of 20th  anniversary of  Kargil Vijay Diwas a programme to inculcate Nationalism and Patriotism amongst the students and youths was organized in the indoor Auditorium of Dr BR Ambedkar, Institute of Technology, Pahargaon on 26th July 2019. The programme was attended by the Kargil war Heroes and other awardees from various fields in which more than 1400 students from various schools participated.  The programme was also attended by the former Member of Parliament Mr Bishnu Pada Ray and other dignitaries from Civil Society, PRI, and Media etc.

Six brave Soldiers namely Col. Deepak Rampal, Veer Chakra, Col. Om Prakash, Kargil Hero, Brig. JM Devadoss, Andaman Tsunami Hero, Brig Govind Sisodia, VSM(Retd) – who did operation against terrorism in Sri Lanka, Jammu and Kashmir and operations execution coordinator in 26/11 Mumbai attack, Cdr. Abhilash Tommy, Kirti Chakra and Lt Col. Shyam Sunder Sharma, Shourya Chakra were invited from the mainland in the programme so that the younger generation can listen to them and draw inspiration to achieve success in their lives. Beside these great soldiers, the living legends from the islands Mr John Lobo and MR Rahamathulla of Indian National Army, Mr Papaiah and Mr PA Singh, the proud fathers whose sons Mr Dilli Rao and Ramesh Singh respectively got Martyrdom fighting against insurgency and militancy, Padmashree Awardees Mrs. Shanti Lakra and Mr. Naresh Chandra Lall were also present on the dais.

All the soldiers and other dignitaries who were on the dais were felicitated by presenting flower bouquet by the students while shawls were presented by the dignitaries of civil Societies. At the outset, Children of Khalsa Public School presented patriotic song while  DNA group presented two patriotic dance items.

Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament in his welcome address said that this is a proud moment for all of us to find people of such high profile status who have  immensely contributed to the Nation in various fields in one single dais and perhaps occasion such as Kargil Vijay Diwas would be the most appropriate to honour these great personalities and draw inspiration from them to achieve success in life.  All the Soldiers have spoken on the occasion and shared their experiences with the gathering while Brig.

JM Devadoss, Seva Medal has declared award of Rs.50,000/- to the persons who get commissioned in Indian Armed Forces in Officer rank from Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the Indian Armed Forces and  Big. Govind Sisodia, VSM (Retd) has also announced that every year he will train 03 students from A&N Islands out of which one should be a girl to get selected as Officer Rank in Indian Armed Forces.

All six dignitaries from the Armed forces who shared their experiences were presented Mementoes to honour of their indomitable courage and velour for the Nation and for participating in the Kargil Vijay Diwas function. The function which lasted for more than three hours witnessed with full zeal and enthusiasm by the Students and others present.
