As IGNOU Regional Centre, Port Blair is poised to enter its 14th year on 27th March 2019, I am nostalgic and am reminded of that historic day of 27th March 2006 when IGNOU established itself in one of the remotest locations in India. This regional centre is special since it was established due to a policy initiative & a decision taken by the then Hon’ble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during his visit to islands after Tsunami.

Since its establishment Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)      emerged as a gateway for the communities of islands with an opportunities and access for higher education. In a short duration, IGNOU regional centre became an “educational boon” for the communities of these remote islands located in difficult terrains.

I congratulate Dr. S. Ganesan, Regional Director and each & everyone at the Regional Centre, Port Blair and all its study centres for such a great achievement.

I wish all the best for the future endeavours.

With best wishes,

  1. SAUNAND
