MP lauds efforts of Administration for timely submission of project for one time financial assistance of Rs.279.40 Cr for 344 kms rural roads

Port Blair, Mar 01: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands appreciated the efforts of Chief Secretary, A&N Administration Mr. Chetan B. Sanghi, IAS and also Mr. Krishan Kumar, IAS, Secretary (RD) and his team of officials for taking keen interest in preparing and submitting detailed report to the MHAs and Ministry of Finance, GoI for seeking/grant of special financial assistance under demand No.40 of MHA for an amount of Rs.279.40 Cr. for improvement/ up gradation of rural roads of 344.46 kms across A&N islands in view of announcement made by Prime Minister during public meeting held on 30.12.2018  at Netaji Stadium, Port Blair wherein  it was announced that “On receipt of report on the condition of rural roads in the islands, the Union Government will given whatever assistance is possible”.

The MHA after examine the proposal submitted by the A&N Administration has forwarded the proposal with recommendation  to the NITI Aayog, for consideration under Grant No.40 as per decision taken in the meeting held  on 12.02.2019 attended by officials of MHA, NITI Aayog, MoRD and A&N Administration. Now the said proposal is under active consideration by the Ministry of Finance, GoI, New Delhi as recommended by MHA as well as NITI Aayog for grant of fund to the tune of Rs.279.40 Cr. for repairs/improvement of 344.36 kms of black top roads for which Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, MP is being pursued the matter with the official concerned for early sanction of fund.

As per report, the Tehsil wise rural roads to be under taken for repairs out of financial assistance to be sanctioned are (1) Diglipur – 57.49 kms (2) Mayabunder – 30.28 kms (3) Rangat 79.11 kms (4) Port Blair – 23.51 kms (5) Swaraj & Shaheed Dweep – 10.11 kms (6) Ferrargunj – 79.65 kms (7) Little Andaman – 14.82 kms (8) Car Nicobar/Kamorta/Katchal/C.Bay – 27.59 kms (9) Chowra/Teressa – 21.80 kms.

Besides this, fund for 250 kms of rural road for up-gradation under PMGSY-II will also be considered by the Ministry of Rural Development after receiving proposal from the UT Administration as per PMGSY guidelines, for which process will be initiated by the RD department in this regard shortly, PS said to MP in a communication.
