Port Blair, July 01: Nicobar Police in its efforts to curb the menace of illicit liquor in the District conducted special weekly drive against bootleggers from 24th June to 30th June, 2019. Total 52 raids were conducted, 30 accused were arrested in 30 registered cases, 166 liters illicit liquor and 453 liters lehan (material used to make illicit liquor) seized during this period. It is also pertinent to mention that Nicobar Police has chosen this week in view of 26th June is observed as “International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking”. As such Nicobar police is committed to uproot this menace from Nicobar District and till now in 2019 total 141 bootleggers were arrested in 141 cases of excise reported in district.
