Port Blair, Sept 05: Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit (CFNEU) and Field Outreach Bureau (FOB) organised recipe competition and skit the importance of Nutrition to celebrate Nutrition Month in two separate functions recently at Community Hall, Delanipur and Forest Club, Haddo respectively. Anganwadi workers and local residents participated in both the events. Effective Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material on Nutrition was also distributed during one of the event.
During the festivities, the participants were sensitized about various aspects of health and nutrition like Low birth weight, Nutrition requirements of adolescent girls; pregnant women & lactating mothers, significance of early initiation of breast feeding, exclusive breast feeding for 6 months and continuing breast feeding to infants for 2 years. The participants were urged to share the information regarding the benefits of nutrition with other household in the locality.
Speaking during the events, Shri Anil Kumar Dhiman, Demonstration officer of CFNEU informed the gathering about causes, consequences, symptoms & prevention of Anaemia, Vitamin A deficiency, Iodine Deficiency Disorder and child malnutrition. The importance of adequate nourishment to infants and children was also highlighted. CFNEU operates under Food and Nutrition Board of Ministry of Woman and Child Development. FOB operates under Bureau of Outreach Communication (BOC) of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
