Observation of International Day of Plant Health

Port Blair, May 13: To observe the International day of the Plant Health a Kisan ghosti and IPM exhibition was organized by CIPMC Port Blair in collaboration with the State Dept. of Agriculture at Bharatpur, Shaheed dweep, South Andaman on May 12, 2024. The aim was to raise global awareness about the importance of protecting plant health by safeguarding plants, conserving natural enemies to save the planet.
Mr. Chandan Lal, JSCA, State Ag. Department welcomed the gathering and briefed about the importance of IPM in agricultural crops.
Mrs. Pinkey Das, Pradhan, Neil Kendra Gram Panchayat in her special address emphasized on the importance of organic farming.
Mr. Ramesh H.P, PPO, CIPMC, Port Blair emphasized that indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides can have adverse effects on the environment and human health. Therefore, it is important to adopt sustainable practices to safeguard our plant and plant health.
Dr. Janardan Saikia, APPO, PQS, Port Blair explained that pesticide can disrupt the natural balance of ecosystem by eliminating predators and beneficial insects on the planets.
Dr. Swarnavo Chakraborty, APPO, CIPMC, Port Blair explained the importance of bio-pesticides to protect the biocontrol agents in the agro-ecosystem.
Fourty farmers participated in the event and learned about IPM technologies for a better and sustainable agriculture.
The programme was concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Abhishek Kumar, CIPMC, Port Blair.
