One day Capacity Building Workshop by CPR EEC

Port Blair, Oct 29: CPR. Environmental Education Centre Port Blair organized a one day Capacity Building Workshop and field visit on Island Biodiversity Conservation for the pre-service teachers of the Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE), Port Blair, funded by the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA), Government of India, Chennai. The workshop was organized at TGCE Auditorium on 26.10.2018
The main objective of the workshop is to motivate the teacher trainees to set an example to their students and involve themselves in biodiversity conservation thereby protecting and safeguarding the pristine ecology of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as they are bound to become teachers in the Islands itself on completion of their teacher training course. It is very vital to enhance the knowledge of these teachers in imparting training on Biodiversity Conservation to the young minds.
Shri. A.Gopal, Project Officer, CPREEC, Port Blair welcomed the dignitaries and the participants of the workshop. Shri. Amit Anand IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Department of Environment & Forests, Andaman & Nicobar Administration inaugurated the workshop and delivered the inaugural address. In his inaugural address, he highlighted the importance of A&N islands biodiversity & its conservation and the teachers’ key role in environment protection. Dr. J.D. Singh, Principal, Tagore Government College of Education, Port Blair was the guest of honour in the workshop
The following topics were handled in the technical session by eminent scientists of the Islands.
• Introduction to Biodiversity Act and Guidelines for the preparation of
Biodiversity Register

• Island biodiversity and Role of protected areas in the conservation of
Island Biodiversity

• Floral diversity of Andaman and Nicobar islands
Dr. Sanjay Mishra, Scientist, Botanical Survey of India, Port Blair
At the end of the technical session, the pre-service teachers participated in a discussion regarding the biodiversity register.
Continuation of the workshop, a field trip was organized on 27.10.2018. The participating teacher trainees took to on a field visit to Carbyn Cove mangrove Patch, Botanical Survey Of India’s Garden Nayasehar and Marine interpretation Centre Wandoor. During the field visit, shown the mangroves species and plant species.
