Parliamentary Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution visits Isles

Port Blair, Jan 20: The Parliamentary Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, consisting of Dr. Swami Sakshiji Maharaj, Mr. Dinesh Kashyap, Mr. K Bharathimohan and Mr. Bhola Singh arrived here on a three day visit to the Islands. The Parliamentary Committee visited FCI Store and a Fair Price Shops at Dollygunj. Thereafter, the Committee held discussion with the representatives of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) at Hotel Sinclairs Bay View, South Point, regarding procurement, storage and distribution of foodgrains as also computerization of Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) in the Islands. The Committee also visited National Memorial Cellular Jail and witnessed Sound and Light show at Cellular Jail complex.
On Jan. 21, 2019, the Committee will hold informal discussion with the Chief Secretary regarding procurement, storage and distribution of foodgrains, computerization of Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), programme for consumer protection, regulation of packaged commodities and the problem of supply and distribution of adulterated milk and measures taken to check it.
On completion of the visit, the Parliamentary Committee will leave for mainland on 22nd January, 2019.
