PMBC undertakes developmental activities

Port Blair, July 19: PBMC is a Civic body of Port Blair Town which undertakes the developmental activities for the entire population of Port Blair town covering an area of 41.22 sq km comprising of 24 wards, PBMC is maintaining 74.00 km of other district roads in all 24 wards. In order to provide better road facility, PBMC has recently completed 7.16 km of resurfacing of roads during VVIP visit within two months time. The Ministry of Transport and Roadways, Govt. of India under Central road fund has sanctioned 60 Nos of works (23 packages) amounting to Rs 33.43 crore for a length of 38.79 km under different municipal wards to re-vamp the existing road infrastructure including widening and proper drainage.

It is pertinent to mention that the tendering process for all 23 packages are completed and works are already started on the ground. At present 4.10 km of resurfacing of the road including Retaining wall and sea wall completed and remaining works are in progress. PBMC is committed to complete all the works by the end of December 2019.

Apart from road sector, PBMC has taken up the task to renovate/revamp and refurbishing like Painting, laying of tiles, electrical fixtures, furniture, kitchen utensils, uniform signage, provision of the stage, green room etc have been undertaken in the nine Community Halls viz. Haddo, Delanipur, Khaitana Kalyana Mandapam, Anarkali, Shadipur, Junglighat (Near Island Bakery), Dairy Farm, Brookshabad and Pahargaon to enhance the existing facilities and to extend the maximum benefit to a maximum number of people.

The work is in different stages of progress and expected to be completed shortly.
