Preparation for Proposed Andaman visit of Prime Minister; Jolly writes to Chief Secretary

Port Blair, Oct 11: Mr. Vishal Jolly, State President, BJP A & N Islands, has written letter to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, regarding preparation for the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to this UT on 30 December 2018 to commemorate the 75th year of Flag hoisting by Subash Chandra Bose at Gymkhana Ground. He mentioned in his letter that, during the visit, the preparatory works in respect of the following programme may be completed for laying foundation stores.
Chatham – Bambooflat bridge: The bid for the work for commencement of Chatham-Bambooflat bridge was under process and hope to be completed prior to the visit of the Prime Minister. On award of work to the bidder, the construction work may be commenced after laying foundation stone by the Prime Minister of India. The same was declared by the Union Minister of Road & Transport Mr. Nitin Gadkari in the public meeting held at Bamboo flat jetty and in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Auditorium.
Announcement of Diglipur Airport, Open for Civil Flights: Jolly requested that all preparatory works to operate civil flights at Diglipur airport may be carried out at the earliest. The opening of civil aircraft services will create immense opportunities to the unemployed youth of Diglipur and the adjoining areas. It will help to boost the economy and tourism sector. Request to kindly arrange to declare the Diglipur Airport as Atal Behari Vajpayee Airport and declare Open for Civil flight during the visit of the Prime Minister.
Declaration of Commencement of VISA on Arrival and e-Visa: The NITI Aayog has opened several islands for tourism activities and A&N Islands is one of the choice destination in the world of tourism. To attract more foreign tourists, GOI has declared Visa on arrival and e-visa facility to enable the Administration to declare it by the Prime Minister.
Transshipment Port at Campbell Bay: The BJP party since 1999 is demanding for commencement of Transshipment port at Campbell Bay to increase the job opportunities to the islanders of Great Nicobar and adjoining islands. The work was initiated by the Administration and ALHW. Currently, the proposal is under consideration with the Ministry of Shipping. It may be taken on priority basis with the Ministry and to get it announced by the Prime Minister in Port Blair/Great Nicobar on 30th December 2018.
