Port Blair, Feb 08: The villagers of Kalighat Village of North Andaman have been protesting against opening of a BAR at Kalighat Village, under Diglipur Tehsil. The protest which is continuing since yesterday is mainly lead by women and senior citizens of the area, who are against opening of any BAR in the village. Nearly 100 villagers are participating in this protest.
As per reports yesterday following protest the BDO of the area reached the protest site and soon the BAR was closed for a day. Again today the BAR was opened and as a result the protest by villagers continued even today. It is learnt that the local STS bus from Ram Nagar to Diglipur was stopped by the villagers as a mark of protest, this evening. In past the villagers of Kalighat had given several petitions to authorities against opening of any liquor depot or BAR in the area.
