Port Blair, Dec 09: The Chemical Engineering Division Board of The Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI), has recently released the Annual Technical Volume 2018 (ATV) entitled Safety & Security in Chemical Industries. The ATV is published every year with a defined theme in order to promote different contemporary issues related to Chemical Engg. discipline.
Every day, we use, various chemicals in one form or the other in our day to day life. Gone are the days, when we were producing mostly intermediataries to be processed further for higher value products in advanced countries. Now, our chemical industries are also well developed and we are continuously marching ahead in this direction. Chemical industries and their products, if not handled properly and judiciously, can create havoc also for human beings. Every day, chemical disasters and hazards are being reported in the press. A chemical known as Fentanyl, a synthetic oploid, can be used in chemical warfare, besides its use as a medicine.
In view of the above it is a timely document containing about 15 articles dealing with Safety and Security in Chemical Industries for technical people and the common man. The soft copy of the same is available with the Office of The Institution of Engineers (India), Andaman & Nicobar State Centre, Port Blair.
