RO holds Meeting with Political Party Representatives

Port Blair, Mar 10: The Returning Officer, A & N Islands Parliamentary Constituency, Mr. Udit Prakash Rai had held a meeting with the representatives of political parties of A & N Islands in the conference hall of District Office here today. The objective of the meeting was to apprise the party representatives of changes in the name and location of some polling stations in all the three districts.

While addressing the meeting, the RO informed about the instruction of the Election Commission of India for conducting a free, fair and transparent election. There should not be any inducement from the party against or in favour of any candidate once the elections are declared. Any complaint against illegal activities can be lodge on eVIGIL, an app launched for the election and in case of failure in network, the same can be conveyed on toll free Helpline No.1950, for which action will be taken within 100 minutes of the receipt of the complaints, he said.

The RO further informed the party representatives that party must seek permission for organizing political activities, such as public meeting, nukkad natak etc at least 48 hours before the commencement of the activities. Any activity carried out without permission is illegal and will attract legal action, he said and sought their cooperation for conducting a fair, free and transparent election.

The RO also informed them about the process for including, deleting and registering voters by filling up particular forms or even they can enquire from Helpline 1950.

The old name, location and new name and new location of the Polling stations, the name of which are to be changed were read out to the party representative during the meeting.
