SBA Campaign conducted by CIARI

Port Blair, Sept 07: Swacch Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) is a nationwide movement involving every citizen to make India clean and hygiene in every household. The major thrust is on awareness among people and spread cleanliness, bringing behavioural changes to people, disposal of wastes safely and completely and complete elimination of open defecation. In this national endeavor strongly promoted by the Prime Minister of India, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair has organized a public campaign cum workshop at Bathubasthi on “cleanliness and health’ on 7th September 2018.
Padmashree Mr. Naresh Chandra Lal, Ambassador of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan led the campaign along with Dr A. Kundu, Director, ICAR-CIARI. All the staff members of ICAR-CIARI took part in the campaign and went door to door to highlight the need for cleanliness in all aspects. Shop owners on the CIARI road were apprised on the need for cleanliness.
The chief guest highlighted the importance and genesis of SBA. He told the audience that Swachh is a personal hygiene, clean and healthy body, neatness of the surroundings and more particularly it is the attitude of the citizen which was envisioned by Gandhiji. He called upon the CIARI staff to get involved in the mission and make a new generation of Indians with Swachh as one of their basic attitude. Speaking on the occasion Dr A.Kundu, Director, CIARI informed the audience about the technologies available to recycle the wastes and utilize them besides the efforts under taken by the institute to spread the awareness on Swachh Bharat.
During the workshop Dr. D. Bhattacharya, Principal Scientist through power point presentation enlightened on cleanliness and health highlighting how the disease and parasites spread from unhygienic place to human beings through dust bin which is one of the vital component of life style. He also explained about the infectious diseases bothering our children. Dr. A.Velmurugan, Nodal Officer, SBA, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the need and activities being undertaken under SBA. He thanked all the participants and public for their support to make the island clean and green which was attended by more than 125 staff of the Institute.
