Port Blair, Jan 21: 27 year old Gaurab Kumar Paul, a 27 year old, resident of Shore Point, Bombooflat had a terrible accident on 21st June 2018, when , because of electrocution, he sustained injuries on the right and the left forearms.
The injuries of electrocution were so severe that ultimately it resulted in amputation of both the arms (below elbows).
This incident took place during a marriage ceremony, when Gaurab Kumar Paul was trying to help someone, who was putting electric-lines. Somehow this move backfired and this accident happened, which changed life of Gaurab Kumar Paul forever.
What followed afterwards was nothing less than a long and never ending nightmare for him and his family members. After several month-long treatments, he finally lost both of his arms and his life is now totally dependent on others.
Although he is slowly learning to adjust with his new life without his arms, the only ray of hope in his life is artificial hand which costs a fortune in India.
After several research and consultation with doctors he found that he can have prosthetic arms, costing around four lacks each, after which he will be able to at least hold things with three artificial fingers.
Presently parents of Gaurab Kumar Paul are trying their level best to manage whatever money they can collect from friends and relatives for getting prosthetic arms for Gaurab. Whatever money they had earlier, was already been spent for the treatment of Gaurab in Chennai and Bangalore after the electrocution. The family has little hope that they will ever be able to collect such huge amount for the prosthetic arm but they are putting all efforts, to see their son with arms.
The 27 year old youth could have a great future but sadly while helping others he met with an accident and his life has changed forever.
The worst part of Gaurab’s story is that he had cleared the first written test of MTS but then this accident happened. After operation he did attend the second written test with the help of someone else but he could not clear the exam for various reasons.
Family members are requesting the Administration to kindly consider the case of Gaurab Kumar Paul under handicapped quota of MTS, but the family was told that such shifting is not possible. Now getting prosthetic arms for Gaurab, is the only aim for the family.
