State level Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for ANIIMS and DBRAIT students organised by Department of Home Science, JNRM

Port Blair, Feb 06: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, in association with the National Institute of Social Defense (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India organising a Five days State level Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for College Students from 4th to 8th February 2019.
As a part of the workshop, the Chief Guest and Resource Person Dr.A.Venkadesh Babu, IRS, Assistant Commissioner (Narcotics), Madurai and Trichi Air Intelligence Wing delivered a special lecture on “Drugs and Addiction-Do you Know Enough” under the ambit of NISD Drug abuse prevention programme. He elaborately explained the various form of drugs and its abuses especially the youngsters in their productive age groups. Dr A Venkadesh Babu being a Guinness world record title holder for the “largest drugs awareness lesson” shared his experience on mitigating the drug menace in various part of the country especially with special reference to Arunachal Pradesh where he and his team under life threatening conditions successfully destroyed illicit opium cultivation in 1150 acres worth 5500 Crores.
Through powerpoint presentation he highlighted the need for judicious use of prescription by the budding physicians as they have a greater responsibility in creating a healthy drug free India. He also warned the girl students to be cautious in accepting the any eatable item from stranger in order to avoid any untoward incidence.
Dr.R.P.Choubey, Director of ANIIMS welcomed the gathering the urged the students to utilise the knowledge gained through the programme. He has also appreciated and thanked for the efforts taken by by Shri. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience, JNRM and Convener of the NISD Drug Abuse Prevention Programme. The entire programme moderated and vote of thanks proposed Shri.K.Venktatesan. Altogether around 600 students from ANIIMS and DBRAIT took part in this programme.
