State level Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for College Students concludes in JNRM

Port Blair, Feb 08: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, in association with the National Institute of Social Defense, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India organised a Five days State level Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for College Students from 4th to 8th February 2019 and the valedictory function for the same held on 8th February 2019 at 3 PM in Seminar Room, JNRM.
The Chief Guest Dr.J.S.Manhas, Principal, JNRM has congratulated the Department of Home Science for coming up with such innovative idea of organising the workshop on drug abuse which is very relevant to the youth community. The Home Science Department and faculty should carry forward such kind of programme in other parts of Islands also for the benefit of students and youth, he spoke. Dr.S.Jayakumar, Principal, ANCOL, Guest of honour addressed the gathering and stressed the importance of self control in eradication of drugs in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Further the Department should be nodal agency to serve the cause of creating awareness on drug abuse and addiction, he said.
Mr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Home Science and Convener of this programme spoke the Home Science Department’s need based extension activity of disseminating the information on the ill effects of drugs and its menace as dreamed by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam for drug abuse free India. The transition from Late Childhood to Adolescents and to early adult stage is very crucial and productive age group should not indulge into drug practice, he added. Further, the participants of this programme should strive hard to extend their knowledge base to eradicate this evil from society. Being an outcome based activity Ms.Zeenath Fathima of Ist B.Sc Home Science, Ms Tamanna of III B.Sc Home Science, Ms.K.Kaviya of II.BPEs and Ms.Simran of II B.Sc Home Science shared their experience and informed the gathering about how they want to utilise the information gained from the seminar. Mrs.Nitika Garhia, Resource Person, Department of Home Science has presented the report of the entire five days programme.
Earlier Smt.Nidhi Shekhawat Assistant Professor of Home Science and Co-Convener of the programme welcomed the gathering and Mr. J.Goutham, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Zoology and Co-organising Secretary proposed vote of thanks. Ms.Reshma, Student of Ist B.Sc Home Science moderated the programme. Through this programme 500 students during the five days programme in JNRM and around 600 students from ANIIMS and DBRAIT were sensitised.
