Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign launched

Port Blair, Sept 13: Along with the rest of the country and in all the 70 Gram Panchayats of the Islands, the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (SHS) Campaign was launched in Andaman & Nicobar Islands by Shri Abhishek Dev, Secretary (RD)/DC, South Andaman yesterday in the Gram Panchayat, Chouldari. The AC (HQ), South Andaman, BDO, Ferrargunj, PRI Members including Zilla Parishad Members, Panchayat Samiti Members, Pradhan GP Chouldari, Mithakhari, Namunaghar, Shoal Bay, Wandoor, RD Officials, DRDA Staffs, Panchayat Secretaries, Block Officials, Teachers, School students and villagers were present on the occasion.

 

While inaugurating the campaign, he informed the gathering that the theme of this year’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ is Plastic Waste Management.  He extolled all the PRIs, Govt. officials, villagers, shopkeepers, hoteliers, School children, youth from NYK/NCC/NSS etc. to mobilise people towards focused efforts for Plastic Waste Management and to discard the use of Single Use Plastic. He encouraged the use of bio-degradable bags/ cloth bags to make the Islands Plastic Free and Pristine so as to give a befitting tribute to the father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Birth Anniversary.

 

A swachhata rath was flagged off for awareness generation of the public towards the campaign and the program culminated with a shramdaan activity in the market area and at Veer Savarkar Park.
