Port Blair, Dec 23: An awareness rally on Swachhta Pakhwada was organised by ICAR-CIARI on December 22nd at Bathubasti junction. A total of 90 staff members participated in the rally which started from the CIARI Administrative Block to Bathubasti Range Office Junction and back. During the rally messages about maintenance of basic sanitation, keeping the surrounding clean and green, planting more trees, safe disposal of wastes etc. were displayed in the form of placards, banners, slogans and awareness was created among the public. Cleaning of the surrounding areas was also done with involvement of the local citizens in and around the areas. Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI spoke about the message of the clean India- Green India mission to follow in day to day life so that the surrounding could be made clean and green. He lauded the effort of the staff members for maintaining the Institute premises clean and green and also for participating in large numbers for success fully conducting the programmes. He also requested to spread the message of cleanliness among the fellow citizens also. Dr. Jai Sunder, Dr. K. Saravanan, Dr. L.B. Singh and Mr. Ali Akbar coordinated the day’s programme. Dr. I.Jaisankar, Co-Nodal Officer of Swachhta Pakhwada proposed vote of thanks.
