Training for supervisors and assistants for PwDs held: RO reminds facilitators their duties & responsibility

Port Blair, Mar 19: As part of the preparations for the ensuing General Election – 2019, a training session for supervisors and assistants for facilitating Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) was held in the auditorium of the Anthropological Survey of India here today. Addressing the trainees of Port Blair and Ferrargunj Tehsils, the Returning Officer, A & N Island Parliamentary Constituency, Mr. Udit Prakash Rai reminded the PwD facilitators about their duties and responsibilities in dealing with and helping the PwDs on the Day of Polling.

The RO informed the trainees that Election Commission of India (ECI) has given strict directions about the facilities to be provided to the PwDs in reaching the polling booth and cast their vote. He said the supervisors and assistants should ensure that the PwDs enrolled in the electoral list are able to exercise their franchise without any problem. Vehicles will be provided to help the PwDs and wheel chairs in cases where ever it is required, he added.

The RO said Voters Assistant Booth (VAB) will also be established outside each polling station. The facilitators of the PwDs should help the PwD to get his/her part number and serial number from the BLO present in the VAB and ensure that the PwD casts his vote on priority without any difficulty on the polling day.

Mr. P.C. James, Programme Officer, Social Welfare through a power point presentation informed the trainees about the rights of Persons with Disabilities. He also reminded the facilitators, engaged for helping the PwDs, of their roles and responsibilities on the poll day.

Mr. Rubesh, Election Programmer informed about “cVIGIL” App – a user-friendly and easy to operate Android application, which enables citizens to report MCC/expenditure violations.
