Tree Plantation and Meeting in JNRM to commemorate the 87th Birth Anniversary of Dr A.P.J.Abdul Kalam

Port Blair, Oct 15: The Department of Homescience, JNRM, in association with the Lions Club of Port Blair, organised a massive tree plantation and a meet on “Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s Life and Mission” to commemorate the 87th Birth Anniversary of Bharat RatnaDr A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, former President of India on 15th October 2018 in Seminar Room, JNRM.
The Chief Guest Mr.V.Jagadeesan, ITS, Chief General Manager of BSNL, Andaman and Nicobar Circle described Dr Kalam as a great inspirer to the students and youth. The young students should imbibe the best qualities from Dr Kalam especially hard work and perseverance. We should take oath to achieve the mission he has given for developing our country, he added.
Dr S.Jayakumar, Principal, ANCOL, Guest of honour said, Kalam was always remembered as a Teacher. Despite being a great scientist he wanted the humanity to reap the benefits from science for its development. Many books written by him would be the asset to the nation. He also recounted his personal meeting with APJ. Mr.S. Subramanian, President, Lions Club of Port Blair praised APJ Abdul Kalam for his humanitarian service, great wisdom and people friendly approach. He assured the Principal that the Lions Club would assist future programmes for the leadership development of youth through Home science Department. He asked students to emulate the life of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Mr.T.Rajaguru, Secretary, Lions Club said Dr Kalam was a great scientist and his efforts to develop the nation are praiseworthy. He was the real Peoples President in all times.
Dr N Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM, recalled his brief association with APJ Abdul Kalam soon after the tsunami. He called him a great visionary and he touched the lives of many people, especially islanders. He mentioned APJ’s love for trees and how JNRM follow his advice in planting more trees on the campus and nurturing them. Mr.Soma Sundaram Ex President, Lions Club also spoke on the occasion and emphasised the role of Lions Club in natural calamities. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and Convener of this programme recollected his association and work experience on PURA with Dr Kalam and shared his love towards island and its people. The Lions club came forward to support for Dr Kalam Books Library in Home Science Department. Mr.K.Venkatesan administered ten point oath of Dr Kalam to the students and welcomed the gathering. The Lions Club Office bearers Mr. T.Kannan, (Treasurer), Mr.Thiruselvam (Ex Treasurer) were also present on the occasion. Smt.Nidhi Shekhawat Assistant Professor of Homescience proposed vote of thanks. Ms.Reshma, Student of Ist B.Sc Home Science moderated the programme. Earlier members of Lions Club alongwith JNRM staff and student did tree plantation in the campus.
