Vice Chancellor of Pondy University inaugurates National Workshop on education

Port Blair, Sept 14:Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University inaugurated a National Workshop on education at Tagore Government College of Education, Port Blair conducted under RUSA by TGCE.
In his inaugural address, the VC appreciated the idea of TGCE for reviewing the NCTE Regulations 2014 and explained the importance of teacher training to produce efficient and effective teachers to meet the requirement of the society and felt the need of such training in higher education too. He inspired the trainees to become good citizens to make a progressive society. He made a comparison of Indian education with that of western education system and appreciated the merits of Indian education system. Keeping in view the geographical isolation of these islands, he stressed to give more importance and flexibility to education in these islands and introduction of need based curriculum.A small cultural programme presented by the trainees of the College was also appreciated by the VC.
Prof. NirupamaJaimini, Faculty of Education, Delhi University and Shri. Mukesh Kumar, Regional Director, SRC, NCTE participated the technical session of the workshop and gave their valuable suggestions.
During a meeting with the principals of all the colleges of these islands, the Secretary (Edn.) welcomed the VC and put forward the minor issues pertaining to the colleges of these islands and requested the Vice Chancellor to help the students of these islands studying in the colleges to take part in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan internship along with the students of the Pondicherry University.
VC in his address assured the A&N Administration to extend allpossible support for the development of education in these islands and asked the principals to start add-on courses based on the recommendation of the society. He also encouraged the principals to adopt the MOOC programme of UGC. Dr. J.D. Singh, Principal, TGC proposed vote of thanks.
