Port Blair, Apr 08: As a part of SVEEP activity in the ensuing General Elections to Lok Sabha, 2019, a mini-marathon ‘Votethon’ was organized at Mayabunder and Rangat Tehsil of the North & Middle Andaman District yesterday.
In Mayabunder, the event was flagged-off by the District Election Officer/Deputy Commissioner, N&MA, Mr. Awanish Kumar. General public, officials of various Departments and students from college and schools participated in the programme.
The objective of the programme was to give the message to the general public to display an exemplary enthusiasm and zeal and to exercise the suffrage right on the Poll Day i.e. April 11, 2019.
The Votethon was followed by a drill and formation of ‘Human Chain’ at Netaji Subhash Stadium, Mayabunder and in Rangat Bazaar area with an appeal to vote on April 11, 2019.
The chief guest while addressing the gathering emphasized upon the arrangements made by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for making the election free, fair and accessible for the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). He also stressed on the importance of ethical voting and urged all to cast their vote on the Poll Day.
