Celebration of World Blood Donor Day 2022 at ITI, DOLLYGUNJ

Port Blair, Jun 14: On the occasion of “World Blood Donor Day” 2022, the A&N AIDS Control Society organized a blood donation camp in coordination with Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Dollygunj in association with Blood Bank, G. B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair on 14th June 2022 at Multipurpose Hall, ITI, Dollygunj, Port Blair.  A total of 68 units of blood were donated by the students, staff, and voluntary donors.

            The camp was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mr. Hari Kallikkat, IAS, Additional District Magistrate (ADM), South Andaman by lighting the lamp in presence of Dr. M. Joy, Project Director, ANACS/ Director, ANIBTC, Mr. K. Srinivasa Rao, Director (Employment and Training), Mr. Venketesh, Principal ITI and Mr. B. Nagendra, Dist. Programme

Manager, District Health Society, South Andaman. 

            Speaking on the occasion Mr. Hari Kallikkat, IAS, Additional District Magistrate (ADM), South Andaman motivated the voluntary blood donors for the noble cause and also he appreciated the organizations that were regularly conducting blood donation camps.

            Earlier Dr. M. Joy, Project Director, ANACS welcomed the guest and gathering and highlighted this year’s theme: “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the efforts and save lives” and exhorted people to come forth fearlessly to donate blood.  He thanked all those voluntary donors who have contributed immensely during the Covid-19 season and Lockdown period.

            It is a great achievement for the blood bank that it never went dry because almost every day 20-25 units of blood were collected during the lockdown period in Covid season.

           On this august occasion, a very brief programme was organized to honour the devoted and committed voluntary blood donors. The Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) which is looking after blood safety and organizes blood donation camps has taken an effort to recognize and honour the blood donors.

            Those who have donated 4 times were bestowed upon with honour and handed over certificates of recognition and gratitude.

            Voluntary Blood Donors were Dr. Satyam Setia, Biplab Bachar, P.A. Rasheed, Debasish Choudhary and Manjeet Singh.

            NGOs that participated in the blood donation camp were YBS Trust, Amar Foundation Association, Andaman & Nicobar Blood Donor Association, Social worker Briendaban, Human Touch, Sanju and Others, Sant Nirankari Mandal, Mohanpura Fish Market Sellers Welfare Association, Friends 2 support .org and Vishva Hindu Parishad.

            The Blood Donation was facilitated by Dr. N. R. Kodhandram, Deputy Director (Blood Safety)/ Chief Medical Officer (NFSG). The donors were examined for their eligibility to donate blood and briefed the donors on various aspects and importance of blood donation.

            Mr. Venketesh C.H, Principal, Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Dollygunj, Port Blair organized the camp and made arrangements for conducting the camp successfully.

            The technical team from Blood Bank, G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair and A&N AIDS Control Society ensured that the donated blood units are screened for the blood transmissible diseases. They also examined the donors for eligibility. Donors’ certificates were also distributed to the voluntary donors.
