Island’s Pencak Silat Team Triumphs with 5 Medals in National Championship

Port Blair, Nov 29: The Pencak Silat Team from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has brought immense pride to the region by clinching five medals at the 11th Pre-Teen, Sub-Junior & Junior (Boys & Girls) National Pencak Silat Championship. This prestigious event, held at the Patliputra Indoor Stadium in Patna, Bihar, from November 23rd to 26th, 2023, witnessed the participation of over 1350 players from 34 States/UTs.

Organized by the Patna Pencak Silat Association under the auspices of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation, Affiliated to Indian Pencak Silat Federation (IPSF), International Pencak Silat Federation (PERSILAT), Asian Pencak Silat Federation (APSIF), South Asian Pencak Silat Federation (SAPSF).

Recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, Sports Authority of India, School Games Federation of India, Association of Indian Universities. The championship showcased the exceptional skills of martial artists from across the country.

The Andaman & Nicobar Pencak Silat Team’s outstanding performance secured a total of five medals, including one Gold, two Silver, and two Bronze. The team, composed of nine players, was led by National Coach Mr. Logarjun M, Manager Mr. T. Anil Kumar, and President Mr. Shihan MS Murugan.

On November 28, 2023, the team had the honor of meeting Respected Sir Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS DGP of A & N Islands. During this meeting, Sir Devesh Chandra Srivastva extended his blessings and congratulations to all participants and winners. He acknowledged the pivotal role of Mr. MS Murugan, a EX Sub Inspector A&N Police, in shaping the youths into sportsmanship, fostering dedication, and instilling a strong work ethic in their careers.

Additionally, the team met Respected Mam Monika Bhardwaj, IPS DIGP (L&O), who expressed her congratulations and best wishes for their future endeavors, encouraging them to achieve even greater milestones for the Islands.
