Member of Parliament Organizes 9th edition of International Day of Yoga

Port Blair, June 21: The 9th edition of International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the A&N Islands. This year’s theme was ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, which according to ancient Indian scriptures means, the whole world is one.

While the day was celebrated across the Islands, with many yoga sessions and functions organized, the Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma had decided to reach out to the not so privileged members of the society to celebrate the day. Upon the request made by the Member of Parliament, ‘Bageecha’ led by Yogini Shivani Singhkapath (Masters in Yoga from Gurukul, Haridwar) conducted a week’s training on yoga for the inmates of Pranab Kanya Sangh. The finale was held this morning at the Sangh’s auditorium, wherein 16 inmates gave a stunning yoga performance, which kept the audience spellbound.  

Speaking on the occasion, Sanyasini Chaitanyanandamayee, Secretary, Pranab Kanya Sangh expressed gratitude towards the Member of Parliament, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma for his very thought to reach out and celebrate the day of international importance with the inmates of the Sangh. She also had a word of appreciation for ‘Bageecha’ and Yogini Shivani Singhkapath for the time and efforts taken to train the children. Concluding her address, she called upon the children to make yoga a part of their daily routine

In his message, the Member of Parliament, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma said that we all should make healthy living as our lifestyle. Yoga is one such form of meditation and physical exercise, which addresses our complete health care needs. He also said that his very intention to celebrate the International Day of Yoga at Pranab Kanya Sangh was to ensure that the benefits of yoga also reaches to the inmates of the Sangh, thus fulfilling the theme of this year’s Yoga Day, ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which means that we are a family and the whole world is one.
