Narcotics Control Bureau, Kolkata in coordination with Andaman & Nicobar Police disposed off 1156 Kgs Methamphetamine

Port Blair, July 29: In a massive disposal/destruction operation of Narcotics products held on 25.07.2023 & 26.07.2023, Narcotics Control Bureau, Kolkata in close coordination with Andaman & Nicobar Police disposed off 1156 Kgs Methamphetamine (a Psychotropic Substance) through incineration. The disposal operation was carried out following all the legal aspects / norms.  The entire operation was closely supervised by Mr. Rakesh Chandra Shukla, Zonal Director NCB, Kolkata and Mr. Kalaivanan R, IPS, Superintendent of Police South Andaman District under the overall supervision of Mrs. Monika Ashish Batra, Deputy Director General, Eastern Region, NCB and Mr. Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, IPS, DIG (CID) A&N Police. The officials from the A&N Pollution Control Board and Anti-Narcotics Cell of CID, A&N Police were also present during the disposal process. 

The drug (methamphetamine) was seized by NCB on 21.09.2019 in a joint operation with Indian Coast Guard, Port Blair. 06 Myanmarese persons were arrested in the case. All the 06 Myanmarese nationals are presently lodged at District Jail, Prothrapur. 

The drug disposal was held in the Incinerator of G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair, with the assistance of local administration/Hospital Authorities. The Andaman Police rendered full assistance during the whole disposal process.  The market price of the disposed off drugs in the local market is estimated to be ₹ 2300 Crores.

NCB is committed to work in close coordination with A&N Police for wiping out the drug menace from the beautiful emerald islands, with active cooperation from all stakeholders.
