Port Blair, Mar 18: Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to nominate D. Ayyappan as its candidate for the lone Parliamentary seat in Andaman & Nicobar Islands for the forth coming Lok Sabha election. The Polit Bureau of the Party in New Delhi has conveyed the approval of the candidature of D. Ayyappan. He is the Secretary of the CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee and Vice President, CITU A & N State Committee.
Mr. D. Ayyappan is a Law Graduate from the Delhi University and enrolled as an Advocate. A University Topper in M.A (Political Science) from Pondichery University (JNRM, Port Blair), D. Ayyappan is the Chairman of the JNRM Alumni Association, Port Blair. A retired government officer from the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, D. Ayyappan took voluntary retirement from government service, 1 ½ year ahead of the superannuation to devote for full time trade union and party work. He was the Private Secretary to N. Vasudevan, Counsellor (Health & Forests) in the erstwhile Pradesh Council, Andaman & Nicobar Islands from May 1990 to May, 1994.
While in service, he was Assistant General Secretary of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association from 1990 to 1996 and again from 2002 to 2003. He was elected as General Secretary of the Association in February, 2003 in the Annual Conference held at Billiground, Middle Andaman and continued to hold the post till February, 2015.
