Drug demand reduction awareness and as well as spot registration camp held

Port Blair, Jan 08: Drug demand reduction awareness and as well as spot registration camp for  construction workers under Mission Mode Project were held in Wimberligunj and Tsunami Pahad on 06/01/2021. The ALC Rangat also conducted two more camp at Kadamtala and Uttara on 4th January,21 under Mission Mode Project of Ministry of Labour& Employment.

 

In its initiative to eradicate drug menace from society, the Labour Department in coordination with DHS and NGO namely Nai Manzil organized Drug demand reduction programme at Gram Panchayat Bhavan Wimberligunj and another one at  Shiv Mandir of Tsunami Pahad on 06/01/2021.

 

The focus of the programme was to provide insight to the workers of unorganised and organized about seriousness of drug addiction and also to register construction workers name with the A&N Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, Port Blair The Labor Commissioner Sri Madhu Sudhan Baidya graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, The Labour Commissioner stressed on the importance of such programme to reach out to the youth, workers class to educate them about the menace of alcohol, drugs and substance abuse.

 

He also said that drug abuse has become a major social concern and working class and student has became very vulnerable to fall into the trap, while also urging upon the workers  to pay more attention to their children and take proactive steps to prevent them from falling victims to such grave disaster of drug additions.

 

The programme was also attended by guest of honor Dr. Geeta from PHC Wimberligunj who pressed the need to address the issue of alcoholism among the workers and briefed the gathering on how to tackle menace of alcoholism by approaching health workers and get rid of the alcoholic issues. Gracing the occasion Mr. P.ABDUL Basheer of Nai Manzil extended vote of thanks to the present resource persons from the Administration and workers who were present on the occasion.

 

A total of 344 workers are registered and handed over registration books from the BOCW Welfare Board during the different camps conducted on 4th to 6th January,2021 under Mission Mode Project, Ministry of Labour & Employment, GoI. The similar programme on Drug Demand Reduction Programme as part of National Action Plan and registration of construction workers under Mission Mode Project will be continued by the Department for the wellbeing and upliftment of organized and unorganised workers.
