Major crackdown on illicit liquor and bootleggers

Port Blair, May 12: Special drive has been launched to tighten the clutch over bootleggers and sellers of illicit liquor, especially in view of the restriction orders passed by district administration whereby all authorised vends of liquor shop run by ANIIDCO have been closed. The unscrupulous elements may take advantage of closure of authorised liquor vends and indulge in illicit trade and preparation of desi/illicit/spurious liquor. To rule out such possibility, massive crackdown including jungle combing operation has been launched to unearth such illicit liquor.
As a result of persistent endeavour and unabated pressure, on 11th May, 2021 a team of the PS Hutbay recovered major haul of 300 kg of illicit Handia along with some IMFL bottles from the house of Smti. B. Kameshwar W/o S Thirupathi Rao, (35 yrs) age R/o Ongi Tikrey, Hutbay. She was also booked previously on the charge of bootlegging
Similarly, during jungle search operation, behind Indra Nagar village, On 12th May, 2021, a team of PS Humfrygunj recovered more than 800 ltrs of fermented illicit liquor (lehan) containing in 5 drums and 3 jericane.
The A&N Police is committed to take stern action against bootleggers and illicit liquor.
The general public is requested to share information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to police at 100, 112, & 03192-233077. The identity of the informant will be kept secret.
