Chhatra Satyagraha by National Students Union of India

Port Blair, Aug 10: On the 78th anniversary of “Quit India Movement”, The Congress student wing National Students Union of India(NSUI) launched “Chhatra Satyagraha” under which nationwide protests were organised against the Central Govt.

As part of the protest, NSUI A&N Islands organised online campaign against the HRD Ministry and UGC decision to conduct final year examination of college students. Demand of NSUI also included waiving upcoming semester fee of students and raising voice against Privatization and Centralization of education as stated in National Education Policy(NEP) 2020.

The NSUI State President, Mr M.A Sajid said that No Exams should be conducted during COVID crisis because safety of students is paramount. He further stated that, there are 20 lakh Corona cases in India with 50 thousand daily cases still UGC and Central govt. want to risk the lives of students. Mr. Sajid expressed his anxiety towards many of the students living in containment zones, some students and their family members are already Corona positive.

According to Mr Sajid, If the Home Minister of India is not safe then how students are safe from corona. Students don’t have special power to fight back with corona, he added. “Public Health Foundation of India” and several reports are suggesting that peak of COVID-19 in India will be in mid September. Hence risking lives of students and their family during the peak of epidemic is not a smart decision at all.

Mr. Sajid also demanded waiving of upcomming semester fees of students as Corona virus has hard hit on the economy and family income of poor students. Speaking on National Education Policy 2020, Mr. Sajid said that Centralization and Privatization of education is a lethal combination which will severely damage the ethos of education in India.
