DHS SA under the NPCB&VI launches special campaign “Rashtriya Netra Jyoti Abhiyan”

Port Blair, Jun 01: The District Health Society, South Andaman along with the Directorate of Health Service under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI) launched a special campaign “Rashtriya Netra Jyoti Abhiyan” on 01st June 2022 in South Andaman district.

            The campaign has aimed to cover the backlog of cataract surgeries causing Blindness and SVI among the people aged 50 years and above by conducting primary screening of people for cataracts through household surveys and through conducting NCD screening along with Blindness and Visual Impairment screening in Health & Wellness Center/Hospital.

            Mr. Suneel Anchipakka, Deputy Commissioner (SA)/ Chairman, District Health Society (SA) urged the general public to avail the benefits of the campaign and screen themselves in the nearest H&WC for Blindness and Visual Impairment to achieve the target assigned by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for the period of 2022 to 2025. The South Andaman District also plans to become self-sufficient in surgical capacities in this period so that the “Cataract Free” status can be achieved.
