Port Blair, Jun 01: Mr. Saurav Nair, Social Worker has demanded the setting up of cattle sheds in each Panchayats of A&N Islands for milk vendors.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary, RD & Panchayat, Mr. Nair said that the Administration can set precedence by setting up cattle sheds and charge a fee from cattle owners for each bovine. This will regularise owning cattle in A&N Islands and ensure the safety of motorists from stray cattle on the roads.
“There are several milk vendors with cows and their livelihood is adversely affected if the animal is seized and pounded with fines”, Mr. Nair said in his letter.
He said that government lands can be converted into cattle sheds. These sheds should also be provided with better drainage and water provision facilities which will reduce the sewer complaints that are common near private cow sheds.
“The Administration should enumerate the number of cattle and enact a policy to help the owners”, he concluded.
