Handicrafts and Rope Making Training for the Rural SHGS of ANIRLM at Sippighat Panchayat

Port Blair, Apr 13: The Department of RD conducted a 30 day-long programme for the Women SHGs of Sippighat Panchayat under C.D Block Prothrapur on Coir and handicraft making from 08.03.2021 to 13.04.2021 with the aim to make Rural Women financially stable.
The training programme was inaugurated by the Smt. Aruna, BDO Prothrapur. The training was imparted by Smt. Amrita Valli and Smt. D Vijaylaxmi on various handicrafts made by Coconut Coir including the Coir Rope. Women were trained on making handicraft items like Coir Bouquet, different animals, flowers, nest, coir ropes etc.
The valedictory function was conducted at Sippighat Panchayat where Smt. Reshma Singh, SPM (Livelihood) highlighted various livelihood trainings planned under DAY-NRLM which may help the SHGs Women to have better livelihood opportunities making them self-employed.
Finally, Certificate was distributed to the trainees by the Director (RD/Panch). The Director(RD/PRIs) praised the Women for converting Coconut Coir to beautiful home decors and added “this capacity building training will benefit the rural Women in earning their livelihood in future by making them financially sound as there is a huge market for the coir related products and coir ropes in the market today”.
Mr. Suneel Achipaka, IAS, Secretary (RD) emphasized that Andaman Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM) is a poverty alleviation project focused on promoting self-employment and organization of rural poor. The basic idea behind this programme is to organize the poor section into SHG (Self Help Groups) groups and create a platform for self-employment. He further appealed to the general public to avail the benefits under Govt. of India’s Rural Development Schemes as it aspires that the rural households would be facilitated to achieve increased access to entitlements and public services.
