Installation of Oxygen Generator at INHS Dhanvantari of Andaman and Nicobar Command

Port Blair, July 19: An Oxygen generation facility was inaugurated by Lieutenant General  Ajai Singh, AVSM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) on 19 Jul 21 in presence of Shri Dr. V Chandavelou, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Dr. Omkar Singh, Director (Health), Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Mr. Anjan Halder, Project Head, M/s ITD Cementation India Limited and Senior Officers of ANC. Considering the severity of the COVID-19 second wave and the subsequent exponential surge in demand for medical grade oxygen, HQ ANC had initiated various measures to augment the medical and support facilities at Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

As part of this initiative, setting-up of a medical grade Oxygen Generation Plant at INHS Dhanvantari was taken up by ANC through M/s ITD Cementation India Limited, who is undertaking a major marine infrastructure project in the Command. The firm took up this venture as part of their ‘Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)’ initiative. Despite various constraints due to lockdown restrictions and shortage of Oxygen generation plants in the country, a new Oxygen generation plant was procured from Chennai in short span. The facility has been successfully installed and commissioned at INHS Dhanvantri, Port Blair.

This facility will be only captive / in-house facility within hospital for generation of medical grade oxygen at Port Blair. This facility would ensure continued supply of medical oxygen to specified beds, thus providing a huge fillip to our fight against the COVID pandemic and significantly enhancing self-sufficiency.
