Port Blair, Mar 12: ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair along with its KVKs is organizing Kisan Mela on the theme: Agripreneurship Development in Islands from 20th to 21th March 2024 in its Mela ground at Garacharma Research Complex. Around 600 farmers representing different gram panchayats of South, Middle & North Andaman & Nicobar districts are expected to participate in the two-day event. This mela is not just a gathering; it’s a celebration of agriculture and innovation.
Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A & N Islands, has agreed to be Chief Guest and inaugurate the Kisan Mela. Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director, CIARI has informed that the event will commence at 10:00 AM on 20th March 2024 and promises to be an enlightening and enriching experience for all participants. They have curated several innovative exhibits that are aimed at promoting agri-entrepreneurship and addressing agricultural-related challenges specific to the island. Modern farming techniques to sustainable practices, local products to new technologies will be showcased in this Kisan Mela. They invite farmers, researchers, students, entrepreneurs, and passionate stakeholders of agriculture to come and explore the diverse range of exhibits and activities lined up for the two-day event.
The highlight of the mela will be scientist-farmer’s interaction and quiz competition to provide an opportunity to the visiting farmers and other stakeholders to interact with the team of scientists and share the information to the larger audience on different facets of agripreneurship development in islands.
A total of twenty stalls depicting models of technologies in agriculture & allied sectors for adoption and commercialization, besides participation of development departments, SHGs, sale of seed, seedlings, byproducts etc. are the added attractions of the mela.
