LG felicitates rank holder students of class X and XII: Stresses need for making extra efforts for improving overall education system in Isles

Port Blair, Oct. 24: It was a proud moment for the rank holder students of class X and XII, when they were felicitated for their performance in the AISSE & AISSCE – 2019 by the Lt Governor, A&N Islands & Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) at a felicitation function held at Raj Niwas here this morning. The Lt Governor and other dignitaries gave away the gold medals and trophies to the meritorious students and best schools on this occasion.

In his address on the occasion, the Lt. Governor congratulated the rank holders for performing well in the AISSE & AISSCE – 2019. He also extended his best wishes to the students of class XIIth, who are going to pursue higher studies.

Sharing his views on the overall education system in the Islands, the Lt. Governor stated that education is an important for an individual and has to be taken seriously as it is useful not only for the future of the students but also the future of these Islands and the country as a whole.

The Lt. Governor said, to incentivize the mid-day meal scheme, the Administration has added more items for the Islands’ students, in addition to those prescribed by the Central Government. Under the NISHTA scheme, in-service training is being imparted to the teachers and principals, by the master trainers, while the student-teacher ratio is also favorable in these Islands, he said, adding that remedial classes are also being organized for those students, who need extra attention. The Administration is also conducting special coaching classes for the students to encourage them take up NEET and JEE exams, he said.

Pointing at the pass percentage of class X & XII of this year, the Lt. Governor said, the pass percentage this year has come down compared to the pass percentage of last year which is a matter of concern. He also urged the elected representatives, parents, teachers and Principals to examine how the Islands can achieve the desired goals in the education sector here.

The Lt. Governor gave away the Ajay Mathew Memorial Gold Medal to the first Rank Holder of AISSCE-2019, Kumar Adarsh Ilango, student of Carmel Senior Secondary School Port Blair, who scored 98.6 percent marks in Arts Stream in Class XIIth.

In his brief address on the occasion, the Chief Secretary, i/c, A&N Administration, Dr. V. Candavelou said the A&N Administration is making best efforts to improve the standards of education in the Islands by providing all the facilities required for the betterment of the students. He also congratulated the students who secured ranks and expressed hope that they will bring more laurels to the parents, teachers, schools, Islands and also to the nation as well.

Welcoming the Lt. Governor and others present on the occasion, the Secretary Education, Shri D. Manikandan said this is the 25th year of felicitating the students, who perform well in the Board Examination since 1993. The Education Department is one of the welfare departments in A&N Administration, which extends various incentives and motivational aspects for the promotion of the educational achievements, which includes scholarships, textbooks, uniforms as well as sending students for various events by paying their all travel expenses to promote excellence in sports and educational activities, he added.

The ‘Overall Best Senior Secondary School’ award in A&N Islands was bagged by Navy Children School, Minnie Bay, Port Blair. Carmel Sr Sec School received the award for thr Best Secondary School in Urban area while JNV Panchawati, Rangat received award for the Best Secondary School in Rural area. The Navy Children School, Minnie Bay, Port Blair, received the best Senior Secondary School award for Urban area while G.S.S.S Sabari Jn. Rangat received the award for best Senior Secondary School for Rural Area. GSSS RBV, GSSS Sabari Jn. Rangat and GSSS Malaca, Car Nicobar got the awards for best Administration School in South Andaman District, North & Middle Andaman District and Nicobar District respectively.

The function came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by the Director of Education, Shri Kamlesh Kumar.
