Orientation Workshop for Red Ribbon Club (RRC) at School of Nursing, Port Blair

Port Blair, Jun 06: Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) organized an Orientation and Capacity Building workshop on Prevention and Control of HIV & AIDS for the youth of School of Nursing, Port Blair, on 04th June 2022.

            The workshop was an initiative for enrolling members from 1st year in the “Red Ribbon Club” (RRC) of the School of Nursing. The objective of the club is to educate youth and encourage them to learn about safe and healthy lifestyles, give access to information on HIV/AIDS, and also educate them about voluntary blood donation and safe sexual behaviors. In all the collages such platforms are made available for a free exchange of AIDS-related discussions.

            The workshop was organized under the leadership of Dr. M. Joy, Project Director, A&N AIDS Control Society. Dr.Jahanaha Yasmeen, DD (IEC) and Mr. Kaushik Kumar Halder, AD (IEC) were the resource persons. Youth were imparted information on the objectives of RRC and its role and responsibility in the prevention and control of HIV & AIDS through power point presentation.

            Also discussed are the causes and the consequences of HIV/AIDS, STDs and the measures and steps to prevent this disease and achieve the objective of getting to zero. The newer dimensions of care, support, treatment and prevention were also discussed.

            During the workshop, a student coordinator and two peer educators were nominated who will be organizing activities under the RRC throughout the year. All the students actively participated in the discussion. The workshop was concluded by taking the pledge of working towards the prevention and reduction of new infections in the Islands.
