Saurav Nair demands 3-days ‘menstrual leave’ every month for women working in A&N Admin

Port Blair, May 11: Mr. Saurav Nair, Social Worker has demanded Lt. Governor provide three days of “menstrual leave” from work every month for the female staff working in various departments under A&N Administration.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Mr. Nair

underlined the need for such a demand, to effectively raise women-specific problems. He also added that many women staffs do not feel

free to share their problems and added that male counterparts sometimes do not consider these issues as important.

“Today, women staffs have to come to work on the most painful day of their menstrual cycle which affects their mental and physical state”, said Mr. Nair.

He added that many staffs have to travel long distances to reach their offices due to no well-connected public transport and that filthy toilets at their offices are generally unusable which adds to their misery during periods.

Hence, Mr. Nair requested the Lt. Governor to direct A&N

Administration for making provision of three-day ‘menstrual leave’ for female staff working under A&N Administration.
