South Andaman Police initiates intensive Special Drive against Drunken Driving

Port Blair, July 11: Acting proactively on the fact that the ANIIDCO shops and bars have been opened after lockdown relaxations, South Andaman Police has started intensive special drive against drunken driving and persons causing nuisance under influence of intoxication.

To crack down the whip against drunken driving, multiple mobile checking teams have been formed and the barricade staffs have been tasked to strictly check the vehicles and their drivers. All the violators will be challaned as per law and their vehicles will be impounded.

Strict action against drunken driving is necessary to keep crime under control and safety of others on road. Yesterday (10 July), 09 persons have been challaned for drunken driving and their vehicles have been impounded.

In addition, 08 persons have been booked U/s 34(6) of Police Act for creating nuisance under influence of liquor. Three accident cases for rash & negligent driving under intoxication have been registered and accused arrested in the district yesterday (10th July). In one case registered in PS Ograbraj, driver under the influence of alcohol lost the control and drove the car into the sea. Sudden spurt is witnessed in calls related to violence under the influence of alcohol.

South Andaman police appeals to the all residents to refrain from drunken driving for their own safety and for the safety of others. Strict action against drunken driving will continue to be intensified in the coming days.
