Villagers of Mahaveer Nagar demands restoration of Bus Services in the area

Port Blair, Jun 07: The Villagers of Mahaveer Nagar, near Birdline, are facing tribulations due to the non-availability of public transportation in the area.

According to the villagers, due to the absence of transportation services, the area residents have to walk about a 1.5 km long distance to reach the Main Road to avail any kind of transportation.

The problem is majorly faced during any medical emergency and by the school students and other working personnel opting for transportation to reach their respective workplaces.

It was reported that earlier, a private bus was in-service from Mahaveer Nagar to Aberdeen Bazar but due to a lack of passengers, the bus service was discontinued. But on contrary, it was detected that a considerable amount of people in the area are forced to walk long distances to the main road for the transportation services during morning and evening hours.

Therefore, the Villagers of Mahaveer Nagar have demanded bus services from the Air Force Station to the BhatuBasti Forest check post via Mahaveer Nagar, especially during morning and evening hours.

However, when Andaman Sheekha contacted the Senior officers of State Transport Services, they said that no request was received from the villagers on this matter yet but they assured that if they receive any request, immediately the STS team will inspect the area and if there is a motorable road, they are ready to provide bus services in demanded time.
