Port Blair, July 30: Together with the rest of the country, the 20th years of victory at Kargil was celebrated in the A&N Regions as Kargil Diwas. The day marks the victory of Indian Armed Forces in Operation Vijay in 1999. The central theme of this year’s celebrations is Remember, Rejoice and Renew. Indian Coast Guard has also taken various initiatives so as to evoke feelings towards nurturing of nationalism, patriotism amongst the students and youths of Port Blair. On this occasion, various functions comprising of patriotic lectures and display of documentary films sharing war experiences and the role of ICG was organized in various schools and colleges at Port Blair. In coordination with Regional Headquarters Coast Guard, the Pollution Response Team (A & N) and Regional Store Depot (PBR) have jointly organized lectures and presentation at 03. Govt. schools namely Govt Senior Secondary School (Tamil & English Medium), Govt. Senior Secondary School (Telugu Medium) Haddo, Kendriya Vidyalaya no. 2 at Minnie bay and 02. Colleges namely Andaman College at Chakkargaon and JNRM college at Port Blair 25-26 July 19.
On the occasion, the team of officers from units of CGPRT (A&N) and RSD(PBR), delivered lectures on Kargil war and the ultimate sacrifices of national brave hearts from various Defence Organisation. Students from these schools and colleges were briefed about Operation Vijay led by Indian Army, which was assisted by the Indian Air force (operation Safe Sagas) and Indian navy (Operation Talwar). Students were also apprised of their duties and responsibilities towards the safeguarding of our great nation. The programme was a move by Indian Coast Guard for encouraging the youths of this country and their awareness about various armed forces. The participating students were also provided awareness on various opportunities and roadmaps for making their career in Indian Armed Forces.
