ABVKA appreciates efforts of Election Commission of India for casting of votes for the First Time by the Shompens Tribes

Port Blair, Apr 24: Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram an all India tribal welfare organization is working among the Tribal Communities from the past seven decades for the overall development by protecting the indigenous faith and culture. Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram is an all India body which governs and affiliates all its state level Units and working for the betterment of Janjati Community with its multi dimensional verticals such as Shradhajagran, Education, Health, Women empowerment, Sports, Gram Vikash (Village Development), Youth affairs, Preservation of Lok Kala (Folk Arts), etc.

Once the activists of Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram heard that the Aborigin Tribes of Great Nicobar viz., Shompens have exercised their voting rights for the first time for the General Elections to Lok Sabha – 2024 on 19th April, 2024 have expressed its happiness over their participation in the world’s largest democracy. This has made the dream come true of reaching to the unreached and no voters to be left behind. 

This initiative of the District Election Office of Nicobar district has done a commendable job and the efforts made by them are really appreciable. Furthermore, it is hoped that such great news may come in future also from these vulnerable communities (PVTGs) of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. As we know, that Andaman & Nicobar Islands have six indigenous tribes viz., Nicobarese, Great Andamanese, Jarawa, Onge, Shompens and Sentinelese, wherein two tribal communities namely Nicobaries and Great Andamanese have brought under the shades of mainstream society and they are contributing themselves in the nation building and the news about Shompen tribes has set a milestone for the 21st Century’s Bharat. A morning for New India begins with such good news for the natives of these lands.  

Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram expressed its gratitude and thanks to the Election Commission of India and the officials of Andaman & Nicobar Islands who have made their efforts to bring Shompen Tribal Community to exercise their franchise and incorporate them in the mainstream society.
