CPI(M) stage Mass Demonstration In front of PBMC Office

Port Blair, Jul 08: CPI (M) Port Blair City Area Committee has organized a Mass Demonstration on 08th July 2022 in front of the office of the Port Blair Municipal Council at Aberdeen Bazar on various issues affecting the people of Port Blair town.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee dealt in brief with the issues on which the agitation was organized by the party. He said that the BJP-ruled Port Blair Municipal Council has completely failed to implement the Smart City Mission Projects in Port Blair town and said that despite the passing of seven years of its launch in the country, the Port Blair Municipal Council could not make any progress on its implementation.
He said that the BJP-led Port Blair Municipal Council has affected a steep increase in the Property Tax which is an additional burden on the people. He demanded that the increased Property Tax should be withdrawn immediately.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member criticized the PBMC and Administration for the dilapidated condition of footpaths and Municipal roads. He referred to the unhygienic condition of Port Blair town.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. B Chandrachoodan, State Secretariat Member said that Municipal workers are being misused and demanded to stop it immediately. CPI (M) leaders Mr. P.Banerjee, Mr. NKP Nair and Mr. S. Surender also addressed the gathering. A large number of party workers and sympathizers participated in the mass demonstration. Prior to Mass Demonstration, the Party has carried out corner meetings on three days on 06th, 07th and 08th July 2022 covering most of the Wards in Port Blair town.
The issues highlighted during the campaign were (i) failure of PBMC to implement Smart City Mission Projects properly (ii) steep increase in the Property Tax by PBMC (iii) privatization of sanitation work in the PBMC (iv) unhygienic condition of Port Blair Municipal area (v) dilapidated Footpaths and Municipal Roads, (vi) Paid parking on roadsides, etc.
