Dy. Commissioner (SA) Directs Chief Fire Officer to Conduct Fire Audits

Port Blair, Dec 05: The District Magistrate in exercise of the power conferred under Section 30(2)(v) read with 26(2) District Management Act 2003, had directed Chief Fire Officer to conduct fire audits of all the resorts/ hotels/ restaurants etc. and to intimate/suggest the owners of the said building to make such structural changes/modifications/ additions/alternations as may be required to comply with the fire safety norms in a time bound manner. Chief Fire Officer was also asked to submit the report of such buildings who have not complied with the directions of the fire department.
The Fire Department conducted the audit of all resorts/ hotels/ restaurants etc. of South Andaman and submitted the list of all such buildings who have not complied with their directions.
In order to take stringent action against such violators, the District Magistrate constituted a Committee comprising officers from the PBMC, Electricity and Fire Departments to inspect the buildings and directed the committee to submit report regarding the vulnerability of the said building and also to suggest the owners for alterations to be made for making it safe for the customers.
The committee submitted a list of six such hotels/ restaurants/ resorts which had some dangerous portion of the building for immediate action. Thereafter, the six building owners were show caused and the Sub Divisional Magistrate had sealed the dangerous portion of the building as reported by the Committee.
It is to bring to the information of all hotels/ resorts/ restaurants owners of South Andaman District that the above said committee shall be inspecting all the hotels/resorts/restaurants for compliance of fire safety norms. If any of the building is found to violate the norms of the fire department, stringent action shall be initiated against the owners of the building including sealing of the said building. Therefore, all the commercial establishments are requested to comply with the safety norms as said by District Magistrate/ Dy. Commissioner (SA) in a press release.
