Eco Tourism Project for Long, Aves and Smith Island -ANIIDCO

Port Blair, Mar 07: Expert Appraisal Committee of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India while considering the proposals for development of Eco-tourism projects at Long Island and Smith Island (Andaman & Nicobar Islands) has recommended clearance from the angle of Coastal Regulation Zone in its meeting held on 18 February, 2019 at New Delhi, subject to certain conditions to be complied by the developer/Stakeholder. The above said Expert Appraisal Committee has also given positive observations for CRZ clearance to proposed eco-tourism projects of Aves Island with indicative conditions and specific remark if integrated Islands Management Plan (IIMP) is amended in future to 20 mtrs.

The above mentioned recommendations/observations related to CRZ clearance paves the way for development of Eco tourism premium resorts in the A & N Islands. It is relevant to mention that A & N Administration has already extended the date for participating in Request For Qualification (RFQ) till 11th March 2019. These projects are expected to be developed as role model for tourism industry where environmental jurisprudence is implemented in letter and spirit.

The vision is to leverage the potential of the Islands and to position them at par with international tourism and trade destinations. Holistic development of the Islands will develop the local economy, provide employment and infrastructure service to the local population for New Andamans, said Kulanand Joshi, MD, ANIIDCO in a press release.
