Port Blair, Nov 20: In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands, Mr. Sanjib Kumar Mandal, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman has requested for notifying the coastal areas of South Andaman under ICRZ-II which is presently notified as ICRZ-III. In his letter he added that coastal areas of Hopetown, Bambooflat, Shorepoint etc. has already been included in the “Master Plan” of Town Planning and the state Highway passes through the above areas. Moreover, most of the land in the Stretch between Bambooflat and Hopetown on the other side of the main road has already been registered as commercial land where shops and other commercial establishments are already functioning. Citing need for further development of the coastal areas, which is not possible given the restrictions under ICRZ-III, this request has been made to bring the areas under ICRZ-II at the earliest.
