Empowering Communities: 38th Awareness cum Fitness Programme   (Hasgulla Club) for Health and Drug-Free Living”

Port Blair, Apr 28: Directorate of Social Welfare remains dedicated to promoting a healthy and drug-free society through its innovative initiative, the Awareness cum Fitness Programme, commonly referred to as the Hasgulla Club, as part of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” (Drug-Free India Campaign).

38th Awareness Cum Fitness Program started with enthusiasm at Joggers Park on April 27th, 2024 (Saturday), from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM, extending a warm invitation to locals for an invigorating morning routine. Guided by Mr. Ravinder Rao, a Yoga teacher of “Art of Living”. Additionally, certified Yoga instructors and Doctors from the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), South Andaman led yoga classes, emphasizing the holistic benefits of yoga and meditation in staying away from drugs.

Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare), emphasized the pivotal role of the initiative in fostering a vibrant and drug-free society, stating, “Our aim is not just physical fitness but also mental well-being.” He also shed light on the challenges faced by youth due to drug abuse, underlining the importance of initiatives like the “Hasgulla Club” in addressing these issues.

Dr. M.K Mahato, Doctor (IRCA), South Andaman, highlighted the beneficial benefits of yoga and meditation in combating drug addiction. He stressed the availability of the 112 Helpline number (24*7) for counseling individuals struggling with drug addiction, providing guidance on overcoming addiction and reclaiming one’s life.

The Directorate of Social Welfare extends an open invitation to all interested individuals to join the transformative “Hasgulla Club” program.
