Port Blair, Jan 20: A Seminar on Drug addiction, suicidal attitude of Youth under Andaman and Nicobar Youth Mental Health Awareness Programme organized by NYK Port Blair in associated with Elite Computer Solutions, Dollygunj, Port Blair organized at ITI Dolly Gunj on 19th Jan. 2021. On the occasion, Dr. Sridar Professor in Psychology, ANCOL was Chief Guest, While Shri. Jeo Paul Professor in clinical psychology CRC A&N and Ms. Keren Oviya Babu Faculty speech and hearing CRC A&N were present as Resource Persons.
In this seminar, all experienced guests had elaborate discussion of various aspects of suicide, both a public and mental health problem. And has been seen to be a leading cause of deaths, particularly among adolescents, primary mood disorders and / or substance use were also discussed among factors contributing to adolescents’ decision to commit suicide.
In addition, another issue of drug addiction is becoming the most serious topic of youth in these islands. Early treatment of drug addiction problems for young people with this drug can prevent the lifetime of drug abuse. Abuse at any age can have serious health effects, but adolescents abusing drugs are at particular risk for negative consequences. Adolescent drug abusers are more likely to struggle with drug addiction later in life and have permanent and irreversible brain damage. Youths need to be vigilant on this problem.
Later, a topic on water harvesting was also discussed with the youth that water is also becoming an important problem on this island. In this regard, the district youth officer of Nehru Yuva Kendra, under the “catch the rain where it falls” vigilance and appealed to make all stakeholders aware of its objective to create rain water harvesting structures suitable for rainwater harvesting So that rainwater can be stored and used.
